My Students

My students are eager kindergarteners who love to explore. They are engaged when moving, creating and sharing their thinking about their work.

These students love to manipulate materials, to create and solve problems.

Using hands-on materials and real problems will help prepare my students for the new next generation science standards, which encourage learning skills and information in order to solve problems in new ways.

My goal is to continue to engage them with interesting problems. I want to encourage their willingness to take risks, trying their solutions and adjusting if necessary.

My Project

As educators, we begin preparing students for college and career as soon as the enter school. In kindergarten, my goal is create life-long lovers of learning, who embrace challenges.

Teaching children to persevere through trial and error is a tremendous skill.

Students are engaged when presented with problems and asked to find solutions. Mistakes are proof you are trying, is a saying that I have seen recently and that I think helps my students move from worrying about being right to being risk takers.

A focus in our curriculum is construction. Students explore to determine the sturdiest ways to build bridges and structures. These materials will provide students with many ways to try, evaluate, adjust and try again. The use of the STEM journals will allow students to connect language and science, as they record their planning, results and any changes they make.
