Kindergarten Cool-Down

My students need a variety of sensory tools to help several children in my class with severe emotional needs. The toys listed will provide them with "brain breaks" so they can regroup and join the learning!

My Students

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my project! I am blessed to say that I have 27 students (whom I loving call, "my friends") in a self-contained Kindergarten classroom, ages from five to six years old. The school is located in a working class mixed race urban community. The parents of my students work so hard to balance providing financially for their families as well as providing academic support for them.

My students are special for an infinite number of reasons; Most notably, they have the most genuine and kind hearts that I could ever wish for.

They encourage each other when needed, celebrate each others' achievements, show love and compassion when a friend is feeling hurt or sick, and continuously strive to make me, their teacher, happy. I am beyond LUCKY to teach these beautiful minds every day, and because of that, I'm doing all I can to make sure they have everything they deserve to make them succeed.

My Project

I have several friends in my classroom with emotional needs who require relief breaks throughout our school day. In order to keep these students calm, safe, and happy, as well as in order to keep the remainder of my students safe as well, these students need some tools to assist them in refocusing, rewinding, reflecting, and regrouping. The BizyBeez Magstix will aide in a therapeutic break for students who need to get their focus redirected. The Sensory Bundle has loads of fantastic tools that I can place in specific “Cool-Down” bins, each with a liquid timer. The timers give the students independence in regards to when they can decide to rejoin the class.

All of the tools I have listed will aide in assisting these students so I can also continue with important academic lessons.

The books will be used as a whole group lesson to remind everyone of how we should treat ourselves, and others.
