This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 26 amazing kindergarten scholars who are all very creative, resilient, and caring. Our school just opened in South Central two years ago so we do not have many resources yet, but we hope to have plenty in the future!

Every day, my students work hard to better themselves.

They have a great thirst for knowledge and use the resources they have to learn as much as they can. I am so impressed by their ability to learn new information and share it with others.

My Project

My students are city kids. Our school is in the middle of an urban jungle filled with concrete and pavement. While we've read about camping and forests in books, most of my class has never had the opportunity to go camping with their families and engage in fun learning activities like going on a nature hike, using a compass, or setting up a tent.

I want to be able to bring a live camping experience to my classroom and later give my students the opportunity to try day-camping in the great outdoors.

Play camping will help my students solidify the language development we've been practicing in class. It will also give students an awareness of what life may have been like long ago (a concept we explore in Social Studies), and give students the opportunity to develop their spatial awareness, sense of direction, teamwork, and problem solving skills as they collaboratively complete camping-themed tasks.

Being able to take my students on a day-camping field trip would be a dream come true. Please help us meet our goal!
