Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a Title 1 public school which services grades PreK-5. I teach in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) Kindergarten classroom. Many of our students are English Language learners My school purchased a new curriculum last year, which I absolutely love! However, we were NOT provided the necessary read-aloud books that come with the curriculum. Although I utilize the smart board to show each book, technology is not always reliable.

Read-alouds open the door for students to hear fluent reading and new vocabulary, and provide opportunities for meaningful discussion.

The books I have selected support all modules in our kindergarten curriculum.

Children in Kindergarten need exposure to read-alouds to develop listening and comprehension skills. Reading aloud can stimulate thinking and discussion. The curriculum we follow is called HMH into Reading and it incorporates comprehension questions to ask during the read-aloud. Being able to use these read-aloud books in my classroom will really help support my students through each module.
