This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten students at a school in the Bronx. I work in a Title One school with a variety of levels and needs in one classroom, including English Language Learners. Some of us are in school for the very first time, while some of us were previously in pre-k.

My classroom is a place where students interact with each other to learn and grow.

We are very creative, love to read books, and like to use a wide variety of sensory materials to learn our numbers and letters! Our favorite book is Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes. We always try our best to succeed and never give up!

My Project

My students need more guided reading books and letter magnets for small group instruction. As they become better readers I need to accommodate their learning with more books on their level. These books will be used in small groups. I would like my students to be exposed to reading more non-fiction books. I am asking for fiction as well as non-fiction books for all my leveled readers.

These books will be used everyday and will help my students become stronger readers!

I am also requesting letter magnets which will also be used during guided reading instruction. Each student in my group will get a set and will be able to make different sight words. Sight words are key to learning how to read.

Kindergarten is a very important year for students to get immersed in a text rich environment. I would love these new book sets and magnets to help my students reach their own personal reading goal.
