My Students

In Kindergarten, children need to be engaged to learn. Puppets can help them identify with challenging concepts and complex characters when learning to read, to write and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

My students are gifted and talented five and six year olds from all over Chicago.

They come to school with a variety of experiences but they all love learning! They are ready to explore challenging ideas in Writing and Reading but need age-appropriate materials that they can identify with, like beautiful and lasting Folkmanis puppets.

My Project

I will be able to share these incredible books with my students during our read-aloud meetings. Afterward, the kindergarteners will be able to retell the stories, to show what they've learned by using the puppet theater and the puppets. The flannel board allows them to create their own puppets as well! With these materials, I'll know my students are taking ownership of their learning.

These items were specifically chosen because they are long lasting.

They will always be an important part of the Kindergarten classroom and our school. Their meaningfulness does not fade with time and generations of Kindergarteners will benefit from these materials.
