Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Art is the answer! Kindergarten kids are naturally motivated by art. Art has been a forgotten subject for so long. I am dedicated to bringing it back.

These children are from a low income, at risk area of Southern California where our entire school qualifies for free lunch. We face tough challenges with California budget cuts. We have little to no art supplies and very little parent support. My kids are so excited for "art time". Such high interest should be fostered and I am eager to teach about art and how it relates to life.

By teaching the students the basic elements of art (line, shape, value, color, texture) and studying master paintings I will expect their vocabulary to grow as well as their interest in art appreciation. As a culminating activity I'd like the students to create their own masterpiece they can be proud of. A painting not only to show others but one that inspires others to think. The resources we will need are canvases, acrylic paints and brushes.

Your help will ensure 23 low, at risk kindergarten kids a valuable experience to create something that they can literally cherish for a lifetime; a piece of art that has personal meaning. This project alone could inspire these kids for the rest of their life.
