My Students

It's hard to believe but kinder is paperless! We need simple white, unlined, multipurpose copy paper that can be used to make copies, write, print stories, or used for drawing.

My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.

Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. Their parents want the best education possible for them but, due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have many books, puzzles and other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with a well stocked classroom library and much less with puzzles and educational toys. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and multipurpose paper.

My Project

Paper is a necessity in every school. Teachers use it to make homework packets for students, send letters home to parents, print out assessments and to give practice work. The students use it to write and illustrate their work, color and paint and even to create special projects. Our school, unfortunately, does not have enough funds to buy paper. Each classroom is allotted only one ream of paper a month. That is only 500 sheets of paper. It may seem like a lot, but it is not. We have to constantly prioritize what the best usage of the paper is. My students and I would love to have enough paper to last us the year long. Without the worry of running low, we could really get a lot of work done and even get many special projects started.

Paper is a precious commodity in our school.

We even guard it under lock and key! There is only so much that can be done on the white board or the document reader. Paper and pencil practice is a necessity, especially for kinder students who are learning basic skills such as letter and number formation. We can't do without paper. Please help us.
