My Students

Sometimes students tell me, "I'm not a good artist, because I can't draw very well." These same students love clay, because it's 3-D with a kinetic component. Kids love clay and all students deserve a chance to use it!

Our school consists of a diverse student body.

We have international students from all over the world whose parents work at some of the places in or around Memphis, TN. A percentage of our students are low income/ free lunch. Kids at our school enjoy entering local and regional contests with their artwork.

My Project

Our school is part of a new district and unfortunately the building is rather old. There is no kiln, nor is there a kiln room. Because our school is popular, there is no spare room, closet, or even portable where a kiln could even be installed. As a result, we really need air dry clay like model magic or Sculpey plastic based clay for our students to have a legitimately high quality art experience.

Almost all students thrive and are engaged by making and building 3-D art projects.

Pencil, marker, crayons, and paper 2-D art has it's place, but there is something very exciting about clay! When their pieces are finished, they are functional and will last for years.
