My Students

Do you remember blank pieces of paper and teachers telling you to write what's in your head without the proper writing lesson? Well, not anymore. These books teach voice, fluency and ideas with numerous examples so teaching writing is easier!

I have 24 students in my 1st grade classroom, which is part of a new visual and performing arts program.

While some of my students are well-traveled and have been immersed in different experiences, some of my students have never left the state of Georgia. They have all been given a terrific opportunity to grow their creativity. I want to give them even more ways to learn to love reading and writing and use their creativity to enhance their lives.

My Project

These paperback books are offer great and specific examples that will allow me to focus on particular types of writing. It is hard to teach organization, developing ideas, and the use of voice in writing to younger students. These books would provide the examples students would need to develop these traits and infuse them into their writing. I will be able to narrow down specific passages to help my students begin developing their own style of writing while including these necessary elements. They will leave 1st grade being great writers and only improve as they continue their educational journey.

I always had difficulty sharing my thoughts on paper when I was in school.

The ideas were there, but I was never taught how or organize them and keep my readers interested. This program, the 6 Traits of Writing, examines books that are interesting to all children and provides concrete examples that students can put to use in writing immediately. By donating to my project, you will be helping foster a love for reading and writing that will serve these students throughout their lives.
