My Students

I am a Virginia Preschool Initiative Teacher in Roanoke, Virginia. We are also called the "Star City." Roanoke is one of Virginia's larger cities. With the larger city, comes large challenges. The children in my classroom are considered "High Risk" because of various hardships. Our students are diverse in socio-economics, national origin, color, religion, physical abilities, and family dynamics. Many of my students are unable to experience rich early childhood opportunities within blocks of their own homes, due to financial restrictions.

In almost every situation this is my class’ first experience in embracing differences and understanding respect for others outside of their immediate world.

My mission is not only to provide them with the skills that will lead them to success in Kindergarten, but to nurture and promote early childhood hands-on learning that will pay great dividends through our school year.

My Project

Preschool is a rich opportunity to fall in love with learning. The opportunities provided at Kids Square will open the eyes and hearts of my children in ways that can never be reached in the traditional classroom.

Kids Square learning areas include: a bank, grocery store, hospital, television studio, dentist office, theatre, forest (large motor), small manipulatives room, and many more areas that provide the opportunity for great fun.

Kids Square houses much more than could ever be accomplished in just one visit.

All of this, coupled with a focus on our curriculum ensures a winning combination of learning and fun!
