My Project

Kinematics, or the study of motion in physics, can be daunting for students. With its complicated formulas and abstract concepts, learning about displacement, velocity, and acceleration, as well as the forces behind these, is more fun when students get to explore them with hands-on experiments. On the other hand, giving students the tools to gather meaningful and reliable data efficiently during these experiments is, frankly, expensive.

I want to help my students engage in physics experiments with confidence by providing them with the high-quality materials they need to generate meaningful quantitative data.

Easy-to-use mass sets, quality low-friction pulleys, and the tools to easily construct Atwood and Modified Atwood machines will help my students build confidence in their laboratory technical skills. They will study how changing masses can affect the motion of objects such as dynamics carts, and they will use the high reliable data they generate to quantitatively model how different variables such as force and acceleration are related. The engaging and meaningful experiments will also motivate them to strive for success as they grapple with challenging concepts in my physics class, including not only kinematics but dynamics and energy as well.
