My Students

Creative, kind, tenacious, smart...these are all words I would use to describe our class. I have been teaching for ten years, and I can truly say that this is a class of LEARNERS: children who are hungry to find out how things work and why, who choose to read books and write stories during free time, who work together to solve problems and offer each other assistance without being prompted.

These are the kiddos who are going to change the world.

My Project

Kids who can code can change the world. Digital literacy is essential in today's world, and people who understand programming are the movers and shakers who are creating the future. I am hoping to fund six iPad minis for my third grade class, to help teach children to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and responsible citizens in a digital age.

The third-grade innovators in our class need to develop the digital skills to bring their ideas to life.

We will use the iPads in small groups to take an online course in coding. I hope to inspire these 8- and 9-year-olds to engage with programming in a way that is empowering. Kids are full of amazing, creative ideas for how to make the world a better place: how to help animals and the environment, make life easier for people who struggle, work towards peace, end homelessness, and much more. Having a set of iPad minis in the classroom will give students a chance to learn computer coding and inspire positive change.
