This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a bilingual, prekindergarten classroom. I am charged with teaching them all other subjects in Spanish plus ESL. I have a class of 22 highly motivated and fully charged four-year-olds.

We have to try the impossible this year, teach four-year-olds during a pandemic.

My children and their families were hit hard by the pandemic. The majority of our families come from low socio-economic backgrounds. My kids are so curious and excited to be in school and do not realize that things are different because they have never been in school.

We do not want to burden our parents with any type of extra supply after what they went through. We are happy to be back in school, but we need some materials to replace what we used last school year. We hope these items would help our new students adjust to the huge changes in their little lives.

My Project

Last year, we used technology on an everyday basis and it took a toll on our resources. The headphones I had for the students were destroyed and when I requested some from the school I only received three. The headphones are great but they are too big for their little heads. We use headphones daily and with the daily wear and tear, they are already starting to come apart.

We need enough headphones for the technology in the room and we need headphones that will fit four year olds.

I am requesting a variety of different types of headphones to see which ones will be durable enough to last in an early childhood classroom. These headphones will hopefully last the whole school year and more. The earbuds can be sent home for the technology the students use at home.
