Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an incredible bunch of kids! They come from many different backgrounds which makes my classroom a diverse place to learn. They are creative and driven, coming up with fun ways to approach learning. Many of my students come from low-income families and families that simply do not have the means to support them at home. Nevertheless, my students are strong and these shortcomings do not stop them from overcoming challenges.

My Project

As we start the second half of the school year, we will start reading chapter books together. As a way to ensure that students remain engaged and interested in what we are reading, giving them physical copies of the book they can hold, see, or smell if they so choose, excites them as we go on a reading adventure together. They are able to follow along as I read the story, instead of sharing the book under my document camera. This causes problems for some students who may not be able to see the small print on the SMART board. With the physical books they are able to see and feel the joy of reading a chapter book.
