Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

After serving as a K-5 Title Reading Specialist for 18 years, I have decided to return to the classroom as a kindergarten teacher. I've always loved interacting with children and helping them grow both academically and personally. While this project will supply me with the means necessary to kick-off my new diverse kindergarten classroom, it is truly for the benefit of my students.

My goal is to create a welcoming, inclusive space where children engage in hands-on learning that helps them better understand themselves and their peers through play-based learning.

These resources, such as multicultural dolls, art supplies in a range of skin tones, and culturally inclusive books, will allow my young learners to explore and celebrate diversity through creative expression and imaginative play. The result will not only bring students a sense of belonging, but will also foster empathy within the classroom, school, community and beyond.

As I begin this new chapter in my teaching career, returning to the classroom, I feel the need to innovate change in students' attitudes towards learning and racial representation. Your support will help my students explore and celebrate their heritage while learning to appreciate the beauty of other cultures.
