My Project

I want to provide keyboards for my students in my elementary music classes. These keyboards connect to the kids' Chromebooks via USB.

Kids love music, and they also love technology.

These keyboards kill both of those birds with one stone. The keyboards are lightweight, compact, inexpensive, and receive power from the Chromebooks, so they don't need batteries or AC power cables. The piano is the "master instrument," because a knowledge of the piano keyboard enables you to begin playing other instruments more easily.

These keyboards are similar to the ones given to me by Donors Choose two years ago, but they are more child-friendly than the ones I have now. These keyboards have USB-C connectors, which is an improvement on the micro-USB connections on the keyboards I have now. These USB-C connectors can be flipped upside down or right side up, and still work, unlike the micro-USB connectors. The USB-C connectors also appear to be more robust and less subject to failure after rough use. As well, with my old keyboards, if a child plays with the controls so that the keyboard sound is altered (which they are not supposed to do), that alteration stays altered even after the child disconnects his computer from the keyboard and leaves the music room. So the next person who uses that keyboard cannot start from factory settings. That wastes time in the lesson because it means that the teacher (me) has to check each keyboard to make sure it has not been altered by the previous users. The new keyboards I am asking for revert to factory settings every time they are disconnected from a computer which will save me lots of time in the lesson and give the kids more time for learning.
