I teach in a K-8 title-1 school in New York where we benefit from the culturally rich crossroads and the strong sense of community of second-generation Latino immigrant, Hasidic and African American families.

Research has shown that instrumental music instruction not only increases coordination, dexterity, and interest in music, but also improves mathematical and verbal cognition in children. I want to provide my students with an opportunity to learn an instrument that not only interests them, but will provide them with lifelong benefits.

With a keyboard lab in my classroom, students will have the ability to learn piano. They will be able to enhance their theory and performance skills, while improving their coordination and intellectual abilities. The unique features of a keyboard lab allow students to work at their own pace, therefore challenging all students and encouraging them to achieve.

With your help, my students will be on their way to discovering the benefits of playing piano; an instrument that has been used as an effective educational tool for centuries and across all cultures. Thank you for your consideration!
