This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of grades PreK - fifth grade at a low income school.

Most of my students do not own a computer at home and this would be a great opportunity for them to learn how to operate different types of technology. My students are very happy and energetic, and when you present something new to them, they are anxious to use it and show what they have learned from using it.

My Project

By donating a laptop and a tablet for my P.E. classroom it will make it safer and more room for the students to move. Safety comes first in my class, and with cords running from the wall for the Internet and power it causes a hindrance to the students when completing exercises. With the tablet I will be able to take it with me outside and immediately input running times, shuttle laps, and scores for classes. Third through fifth grade classes will learn how to input their own scores while learning how to operate a tablet. The laptop will be used for the same purposes, but in the classroom. Again using the laptop will make my class safer because it is wireless and the floors will be clear. Students will also be able to operate the laptop by setting up the exercise program we do daily from the Internet. Students love being a part of something new and exciting, and who knows who I will inspire to dig deeper into technology just because they were able to operate a computer program.

I know a laptop and a tablet are common at most schools, and most Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) often will buy these items for teachers for gifts or to supply the classroom.

At my school we don't have that luxury, and we often have to beg, write a grant, or purchase on our own if we want up-to-date items in our classrooms. That's why I like DonorsChoose because I can ask for what will make my lessons flow better, and my students will be very grateful for the technology upgrade.
