This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day begins with my students coming in and enjoying our program of breakfast in the classroom. After breakfast we begin our Daily Language review and then calendar and journal writing. Then we break off into small groups and work in groups for ELA and Math for most of the day.

I have worked as an educator for about 11 years now.

I began working as a general education teacher in Miami Florida. I moved to California in 2007 and began working as a teacher for LAUSD. After receiving a RIF notice in 2009, I moved into the special education field. I worked on my special education credential as part of a district funded internship program. I have been in special education for five years, and I am currently teaching a primary special day class at Victory Elementary in North Hollywood, a title 1 school in the San Fernando Valley.

My Project

The importance of technology in education is becoming more and more apparent. As an educator it is important for us to keep up with the changes and the implications for classroom use. I am requesting a Mac Pro for my own use in the classroom. I am hoping to gain personal knowledge of technology, and of specific programs that will help me integrate technology in my daily lessons and projects. I would like to learn programs such as Power Point, which would allow me to create vocabulary presentations for reading unit themes and vocabulary word studies. I would also use this resource to explore online web resources such as the teachingchannel.org, which I could use to enhance my teaching practice by learning Common Core strategies such as close reading and math talk.

Having The Mac Pro as a resource would make a tremendous difference on my teaching practice.

I would be able to build and develop my own skills in technology, and become more prepared to develop engaging and innovative lessons and projects for my students.
