This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am elated to be back in my hometown in MI teaching in the very same district that I was educated in. I teach Kindergarten and we are excited to be in person for face to face learning. This year I have the most caring kindergarteners. They are excited to come to school, they are eager to make friends and are learning what it means to be a learner. I have a diverse group of scholars, some with special needs and I hope to be able to find some support in giving them what they need.
In my classroom I focus heavily on relationship building, creating a culture of kindness and strengthening social emotional competency.
I could not be more excited to share my love and understanding of families from various backgrounds with my families. I am happy to be in person again and to have such a fabulous group of Kindergarteners!
My Project
These materials will help me support students who need help with keeping focused at school through the use of fidgets. It will also help me incentivize the hard work that students are doing to learn in school by having treats/trinkets students can earn.
Many students need extra external motivation in the beginning of the year as we establish routines in our learning.
This project will help me ensure that I have the materials to sustain that until students develop their intrinsic motivation. For many of my students this is their first school experience and they need a bit more support now that we are back to school in person.
These materials will help students to focus while I am teaching the lesson. It will also help me provide snacks for students when the afternoon comes and they are hungry again. We have an early lunch, and many times students need another snack to help them get through the afternoon and push through with learning. The pencil boxes will also help students keep their materials organized on their desks so that they can find what they need to work.
