Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am lucky to be teaching my fourth year in Kindergarten at a wonderful school. My students are eager 5-6 years olds, coming from a variety of backgrounds. They love to continually be engaged in the classroom!

My students work hard to achieve their goals.

When they complete their work, I want them to have enough materials to keep them focused and engaged throughout the day. They are excited and curious about learning, and I want to make sure I have the materials to foster their love of learning on a daily basis!

My Project

I requested materials to incorporate STEM lessons into the classroom and to build my classroom library and expand my reading center collection. I ordered a set of STEM materials last year and my students absolutely loved them. The students made a variety of creations, and it was fun to watch them engage in conversation with their classmates while building something out of simple materials.

It allowed them to be problem solvers and they felt proud to show me and the other students what they created.

Once my students begin to read, they are so eager to check out books from our classroom library and possibly take AR tests. Often the library gets closed for special events, but the classroom library is always available to them. The books I requested help stock my classroom library.

I create learning centers on a weekly basis, and having math manipulatives is important to keep my students interested and engaged. Many of the materials I purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers or things I find online need to be printed in color, which is why I requested ink on my materials list, and laminating sheets to help them last for years!

Every week I switch my reading centers, and the students love this time of the day. They always ask about centers and their excitement continues about them all year long. The alphabet beanbags, play doh activities, and alpha pops will expose children to phonics and literacy with a hands-on approach.

Having all these extra materials gives me the opportunity to create an incredible learning environment for my students, and has such a positive impact on their year in Kindergarten!
