I teach at a vocational school in Western Pennsylvania. The shop is Health Assistant. Students learn fundamentals in healthcare, Nurse's Aide, Patient care tech and much more about the art of healthcare. It is a constant goal to improve the appearance of the lab to ensure students are getting the most and are ready for the world of work.
My students come from various backgrounds and situations.
They are very eager to learn and pursue careers in healthcare. Much of the equipment needed to instruct the students comes at a significant cost. All items used will be placed into our clinical lab.
My Project
My students are being taught fundamentals of Nursing care. Many of our skills require a lot of laundry that needs to be done to keep up with the skills being taught. For example, towels, wash-clothes, linens for beds, when we run out, we are unable to continue with the skills, without re-using our supplies.
Many times, we take the laundry home and wash it in our personal washers and dryers just to keep up with the demands.
Right now, we share a washer and dryer with a vet program, which results in dog hair being on our supplies. We are requesting a new washer and dryer for our nursing care classes.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
