My Students

Starting kindergarten can be a challenging time for a kid, especially if you speak a different language. Students worry who their teacher is, what friends they will make, how they will succeed in class subjects. As a kindergarten teacher with a 25 amazing New York City students, and half being English Language Learners, my job is to make ALL students feel safe and cared for, so that they are able to learn in a nurturing environment.

It is amazing to watch the students academically succeed and - more importantly - socially get along as they speak the language of kindness and friendship.

It is a beautiful thing to watch and guide throughout the school year.

My Project

"When are we going to play?" is one of the top questions I get asked daily in my kindergarten class. Our day is jammed packed with wonderful reading, writing, math, and science curricula. However, the role of play and social interaction is vital in a kindergarten classroom. Having moved into a new room with limited fun and educational toys, having a giant set of Magna Tiles and a complete set of multi-ethnic dolls will spice up the play center.

Students will be able to work together to create buildings and problem solve how to make solid structures.

Magnetic tiles will also help my students develop geometry concepts as they build with various shapes of tiles.

In addition, my students can find dolls that better represent what their beautiful families look like as they play with their friends. Developing social language and friendship through play helps all students in my class, especially my English Language Learners.
