This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach pre-k through fifth-grade students at a low-income school. Most of my students are on government assistance and receive free breakfast and lunch. My classes have eighteen to twenty-four students who are eager to learn new things. The district gives only a small amount of money for school supplies, small instruments, and repair supplies for elementary music.
My students love to be challenged with new activities.
Many of my students have limited knowledge of the world outside their neighborhood and need more opportunities to learn, create, and grow.
My Project
It seems that in my classroom I am always cleaning the floors.
Let's face it, floors get dirty, especially in a classroom with elementary aged kids.
Kids come in from outside with dirt and leaves on their shoes. I sweep my floors at least once a day and that is on top of what the maintenance staff does.
My carpet gets swept with a broom because there is no vacuum at my school since I am the only teacher with a rug. I have requested a vacuum and a carpet shampooer. I need the shampooer to clean up after students who either have accidents or get sick during class. I would also like to clean the carpet every few week because of germs that are left on the carpets.
