Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

This year has been a year like no other. This year, in addition to the pandemic and distance learning, our district has closed and combined schools to reduce expenses. My kindergarten class and I have been moved to another school to a classroom that is much smaller. I have an "open wall space" that acts as a closet that is fully exposed to the children. I hung a large piece of fabric to cover my boxes to safeguard my kids. I would like to make this area a proper closet with cabinets that have locking doors. They will store my science chemicals, wipes, acrylic paints and test tubes. Now, more than ever, I hope to make the classroom safe for my students.

A locking cabinet to store our science and art supplies, cleaning agents, and classroom materials will keep my kids safe from potential harm as we return to the classroom.

These cabinets have wonderful storage and they lock! It is my hope to fill the open wall space with five of these cabinets to keep my kids safe from danger, paints, soaps and scissors, and the potential earthquakes we have here in California. The items inside would not be able to fall on any kids accidentally because of the doors and locking mechanism.

These cabinets can be easily disinfected and wiped clean.

In addition, the daycare program will be using my classroom after school. I cannot protect them when I am not there. These lockers will help keep my students safe. Thank you for helping me keep my kids safe. Thank you for considering my classroom for your donations.
