Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a kindergarten classroom within an urban public school. Funds may be tight and resources are allocated to other important projects and materials. Our school is an innovative dual language Spanish program and many of my students come from underprivileged neighborhoods. They come to me with very few social experiences and crave the opportunities for exploration and creativity that my classroom provides.

Students come to school full of energy, ready to learn, and super eager for the different literacy and mathematics activities they will engage in during that day.

They are always curious about the world around them, ready to explore, play, and learn.

I teach at a dual language inner-city school in Boston where 80% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Though I've been working as a paraprofessional for many years at my school, this is my first year as a teacher, I am asking for help to make my classroom more accessible and intellectually stimulating for my students.

My Project

This is my first year teaching kindergarten. I would like to start the year off with the basic tools and supplies that will allow my students be successful. My students need Ticonderoga triangular large pencils which will allow them to properly manipulate the pencils as they gain confidence in their fine motor skills. We also need markers, color pencils and a pencil sharpener.

Additionally, my students need new seat backs in which to store their supplies.

We work at tables, so all of their materials are kept in their seat backs. My students deserve clean, functional seat backs to store their materials.
