My students need multiple copies of 20+ book titles, to provide literature that they have personal background knowledge of and can relate to so as to stimulate their interest in reading.

My Students

Everyone enjoys a story that they have personal background knowledge of and can relate to; my students are no different.

My students are very creative, artistic, and do very well in the realm of athletics.

Moreover, they are upward bound in student achievement as we exceeded the state and district graduation rate last year. They read to a point, and have done very well in Accelerated Reader, but they need novels relative to their experiences to increase and further their progress.

My Project

I am requesting high interest novels, as listed in my cart, to infuse into our Accelerated Reader program per the school's Response to Intervention (RtI) effort so as to obtain more award winning, high interest fiction novels for our student's academic and leisure reading needs. The library media program strives to reach our students through books that are relevant to their lives, inviting them to read and contemplate the books they choose, and to encourage them to consider and discuss what they read with their teachers and other students. Moreover, the program seeks to show that reading, whether independent or for class work, can be a source of pleasure, a tool for self-exploration and reflection, and a meaningful way to connect to the world outside of school and the local community.

Contemporary novels that are relevant to our students' experiences are needed for the Accelerated Reader program and to assist with the school's RtI effort, meet the needs of English teachers, and to satisfy the students' interest in popular titles and the collection in general.

The emphasis will be on novels that are high interest and at appropriate interest and grade level with themes that are relevant to the students for academic, leisure reading, and differentiated instruction purposes.
