Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first graders, who are six and seven-years old, are still learning how to regulate their emotions by identifying them and then applying coping skills and strategies that will help them re-focus on learning. Your generous donation will help to equip the calming corner with relaxing music to help students de-escalate situations that take away from instructional minutes.

A calming corner is the perfect and safe space to process all the emotions that they're feeling without judgement or embarrassment.

It will build community within the classroom to respect and honor one another's emotions and feelings. The students will be able to enter the teepee and utilize the resources, such as the coloring books, play dough, stress toys, journals, and reading books that teaches them alternative, more productive ways of expressing and dealing with negative emotions and come out with a plan on how to improve. Thus it enables students to meet two major CASEL areas of competence, which are self- management and responsible decision-making.

This calming corner is also a great way to check in with students and an opportunity to connect to students, using the four positive to one correction strategy (4:1). Please help my first graders learn self-regulating strategies and coping skills that will allow them to rejoin the group more efficiently.
