My Students

Some students have not yet discovered that nonfiction is more than just information about a cool animal, that there are real engaging stories out there in all types of nonfiction resources. This could be the year that magic happens in they fall in love with all types of nonfiction.

My students are an amazing group of third graders in a high needs New York City school.

My school is a wonderful school that does everything possible to support my students. In the past classroom magazines have always been ordered for our students. Unfortunately, this year budgets were cut and our classroom magazines had to take the hit.

My Project

Time Magazine for kids is such an amazing resource for the classroom. The variety of articles really taps into all of the different interests of kids. It is a great a balance of fun with informative information. In my classroom students will be reading these articles and then writing responses or opinion pieces using the evidence in the text to support their ideas. They will also be participating in debates around topics read in the articles. Addition Time for Kids is a great resource because it is grade-level appropriate for their reading levels.

Donations will really help students to become more engaged in reading different types of nonfiction.

Black and white photocopies seem dull and students are often turned off to the lack of color. It makes them see it as uninteresting or not important. Students will look forward to receiving their very own magazine each and every week. It will make the news and articles come alive!
