Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For this proposal, I am requesting a refrigerator for use in our school's hydroponic farm. During our time on the farm, students learn about hydroponic farming thorough hands-on, authentic science activities. They participate in everything from seeding, to transplanting, to harvesting, and get to learn from farmers, mechanical engineers, software developers, and stake holders in food policy. Additionally, during our time in the farm, we create meals that incorporate the weekly harvest, teaching young people simple food prep, healthy food topics, and the joy of cooking and sharing meals. We work in culturally representative menu and try to use as much produce as we can. We rely on simple, pantry items, so kiddos can feel empowered to cook at home. This refrigerator will allow us to buy products to prepare our menu, hold and save the produce until ready, and keep other perishables safe until consumption.
