Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My class is overflowing with the hardest working people in our high school. The young people I work with (9th-12th graders) have a variety of special needs. All of their lessons have practical applications for all aspects of life. Throughout the day they improve academic, daily living, and vocational skills. The students and I have created a number of fun, hands-on ways to learn these essential skills. On a daily basis, students illustrate academic lessons using a variety of art materials. The addition of hair care props will improve opportunities to attend to daily living skills. Vocationally, my students operate a daily schoolwide cafe cart which requires some upgrades, a more durable cart with tablecloths.

Since moving back to full-time, in-person learning we're slowly re-introducing all of our activities: reading, writing, drawing, cooking, selling breakfast treats from a cafe cart, recycling, photography, and caring for a network of fish tanks.

As we resume these past activities, we're excitedly introducing new ones that also require funding. All of the requested materials contribute to fun and innovative hands-on learning opportunities. These learning experiences will help my students in life.
