Keepin' The Cool At School (With The Cool Culture Card)

My students need the Cool Culture Pass for the 2018-2019 school year. As students attending a Title 1 school they are entitled to it, so why shouldn't they have it?

My Students

Last year my Title 1 school was able to partner with the Cool Culture program through a Donors Choose proposal that was fully funded. (Thanks, guys!) The Cool Culture program provides Pre-k and Kindergarten families with personalized Cool Culture cards, which they may use to visit over 90 museums and cultural institutions throughout NYC for an entire year! Naturally, the feedback that I have received from families about the Cool Culture program has been tremendously positive. If you don't live in the NYC area, let me just tell you that it has been a very cold winter; and if you have kids, it can be quite a challenge to find quality, affordable activities for them during these long, cold months. Countless parents have told me that the Cool Culture card saved them over the winter holiday break, and that they were looking forward to using it again over this February break.

Title 1 schools are entitled to partner with Cool Culture, and I would love to see this program back for a second year at our school.

My Project

I took a brief survey when I distributed the Cool Culture cards to families this school year, asking families to write down the cultural institution that they were most excited to visit. A large number of families wrote down The Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum. I recently looked online to see how much it would cost for a family of 5 to visit The Intrepid. The special NYC resident price is $19 per adult, $17 per child. You can get this rate by showing proof of address. (The non-NYC resident price is $33 per adult, $24 per child) Even with the special rate, the cost for a family of 5 to visit the Intrepid is a whopping $89! At a cost that hight, it's no wonder that people were excited to go there, as it is normally simply to pricey for a family day trip.
