My Students

One of the greatest aspects of teaching is learning from others. I am very lucky to teach a very diverse classroom of children. These children are from different countries, have different backgrounds and all bring different experiences to our classroom. One of the things that all of my children have in common is that they love learning!

This year is going to be a very different year both academically and emotionally for our students.

Anything you are willing to practice, you can do. I teach at a Title 1 school that consists of about three hundred students in grades K-5. We are a close knit community of teachers and learners and love to work with each other.

I call my students my children because over the course of a year, I come to care, not only about their learning, but for their well-being. My students are risk takers and enjoy trying out the latest technology ...or Magic Tree House Book!

My Project

As we get ready to transition back to school, what we have realized is that school is going to look quite different. Typically my classroom uses shared community materials. This means that all materials are on shelves and available for students when they need them. This year students will not be able to share materials and need to keep their materials in a space separate from others.

With limited space in the classroom and the suggestion that students shouldn't be moving around the room too often, I have decided that personal bins might just be the way to go.

Students will keep all of their materials in a bin under their chair. On the first day of school I will provide fun stickers for the kids to decorate their bins. If we are distance learning I will be able to pack up the materials for each student and deliver them to their homes. Then, students will have a place to keep all of their school belongings while learning from home.

I have also requested the numbered spot markers. I hope to teach outdoors as much as possible and these will be great to place on the grass to show my students where to sit.
