My Students

The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.

My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.

We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.

I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.

My Project

We are so fortunate to be back in the classroom so far this year. So far this year we have been on an alternating A/B schedule. Half of our kids come on one day and the other half the next. On their "At Home" day they have work to complete. That has seemed to keep us our county numbers pretty low. In a few weeks we will find out it we are will stay on this schedule or if we will all be back together.

My project's goal is to keep us healthy with an air purifier, safe with lap desks so we can spread out and keep distant, and cozy with great Chester the raccoon stories and sticker incentives.

I would love to get a few more lap desks so I have enough when we all come back together to allow us to spread out yet still have a dependable work space. The air purifier and filter will be a great tool to help keep our air extra fresh and clean in our classroom from not only the Coronavirus, but regular flus and colds. Extra face masks will come in handy to keep us covered. My kids LOVE the Chester the Raccoon books and they discovered that I don't have them all yet, so I promised them I would try to get us some more. Lastly, a few smelly stickers make kindergarteners very happy! :)
