My Project
The program I run was created as a last-chance program for students who have had involvement with the juvenile justice system that does not allow them to attend a standard public school. In my program, they have the chance to do accelerated credit recovery or, in some cases study for and take the GED. Many of them are able to turn the tide and change their lives for the better as a result of this program.
Because we are a unique program (and not located in a school building), we do not have an on-site cafeteria - our meals are delivered once a week.
Which was fine, until our refrigerator stopped working in March. Since then, we’ve had to refuse all non-perishable items - milk, yogurt, salads, some fruits - and the students have had to eat and drink only the shelf stable options.
Eating well-rounded meals will give these amazing young men and women the very best chance to make the best out of each day and each day is a chance to turn their lives around.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
