This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Let's keep our school library sparkling clean! A new vacuum and an air purifier will make our library safer and more enticing for students here at Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day High School (MCNDHS). Disinfectant wipes will help us transition between library classes and open access periods. The library is the heart of our school, and we want to keep our heart healthy!

As the school librarian, it's my duty to provide students with a safe, clean space to work, socialize, improve their English fluency and ignite their lifelong love of reading, and to be themselves.

We serve a population of 80% new immigrant and ENL students with a schedule offering morning and evening classes. Many of these students live in temporary housing, group homes, or are unhoused. Our building is over 100 years old with beautiful historic pieces on view, including an original hearth in the library. We also house over 7000 books in six languages (and counting), and we host multiple events and classes. Your donation funds supplies that will preserve our school's illustrious history and growing collection, and more importantly, provide dignity to those who need it most: the young adults who are forging new lives in our school and in our country.
