My Students

I work in an inner city school that is home to our district's SAIL program for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school is a Pre K-Grade 6 school where 48% of our students do not have English as a first language. 34% are students with disabilities and 84% are high needs. I teach in a sub-separate classroom. The degree of my students' disorders makes it impossible for them to be included in a general classroom setting.

My students require a highly modified curriculum, smaller class size, help with sensory regulation and a lower student/teacher ratio in order to be successful learners.

Special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in science, math, English and history without many of the requisite tools to teach our students.

My students are 11 of the most creative, adventurous and funniest children I have had the pleasure of teaching. They all learn and grow in different ways through highly individualized instruction.

My Project

One of the rules of our classroom is simply "Keep our classroom clean". Well right now we need a little help. We are in the middle of cold and flu season and allergy season is right around the corner. We need materials to keep our classroom clean and our students healthy.

Attendance matters!

When students pass germs to each other or collect them off of surfaces and get sick they don't/cant come to school. The less they come to school the less likely they are to succeed!

We need a vacuum to keep our classroom rug and floor clean, disinfecting wipes, sprays and paper towels to clean off surfaces and tissues to keep germs out of the air!
