This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My class is small but full of unique and wonderful students who need more support than most children when it comes to learning social and emotional skills. Part of that support is explicit instruction in areas that others may naturally "catch on" in, such as how to make friends or how to keep yourself clean.

You would be surprised how many children don't know basics of hygiene!

Knowledge adults take for granted, like how to use shampoo or a loofah, or why it's important to brush your teeth every day, is usually something my class needs broken down into steps and given opportunity to practice. Students in my type of class also don't always realize how keeping yourself clean contributes to impressions and relationships, things they struggle with already. Being able to provide the students with their own items would allow me to teach them what each one is, when and how to use it.
