My Project
I am Lifeskills Counselor in two inner-city school's high school. Unfortunately, many of our young people have experienced some type of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Many of our young people are using drugs and alcohol to cope with life stressors in an unhealthy way. It’s important to provide young people with healthy alternatives to manage life stressors.
The goal of my project is to share with students healthy coping skills and improve their ability to cope with daily life stressors which increase their ability to
make positive healthy choices. I will be facilitating a weekly group session that students will learn healthy coping techniques to deal with stress and other young, related topics such as self-love, mental health awareness, substance abuse, anger management, effective communication, healthy relationships and more. The candle making supplies that I am requesting for my students will allow each student to make and name their own personalized therapeutic aromatherapy candle that they can take home.
I will have additional resources that I can share with my students to utilize to help them making healthy choices. Students want to know how to cope with life situations, but they struggle with so many distractions, but I am hoping what I'm sharing with them will make a huge impact in their lives.
