Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Academic learning is crucial for all of our students and so is social emotional learning. Managing and reflecting on our thoughts and feelings can be difficult for everyone. At a young age, students come across stressful situations that can trigger big feelings for them and they begin to learn how to problem solve. However, for many of our kiddos with special needs, it can become even more overwhelming identifying the stressful event, the feelings connected to it, and/or difficulty self-regulating their emotions.

The CBT workbooks, journals, other activities and toys on this list can become significant tools to help with coping and self regulation skills.

Not only will they receive support from a school counselor, but they will also receive it in a way they can understand....with play therapy! These supplies would help support my students emotionally so they can practice how to apply these skills in their classrooms when there is a stressful event. By addressing their thoughts and feelings in a smaller setting, such as the counseling room, students can feel better, transition back to the classroom, and use these skills in real life situations.
