My Students

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”

― John Dewey

The group of scholars in my classroom is a dynamic bunch. Together, the second graders in my class are articulate, respectful, motivated, outstanding, and responsible. They love to work on challenging tasks that encourage productive discourse. They enjoy participating in hands-on activities. Needless to say, because all children learn differently, the learning needs of my students vary greatly.

The community of learners I, alongside my co-teacher, teach, come from diverse households, many of which face challenges such as social, emotional, academic, and financial hardships in their daily lives. With that said, when they come to school each day, learning and fun are placed at the forefront of their day with hopes to guide them to reach their fullest potential regardless of the demands of the world around them. While the teachers and support staff strive to provide resources, it truly takes a village. Please help me support these bright scholars shine as they should at the Jewel of Long Island City.

My Project

This year my scholars will be using their iPads in the classroom. As we enter the blended learning era, students will be asked to use their iPads at home for homework. More importantly, they will use it often throughout the day in the classroom. I have planned stations where they will be able to work on their iPads to research topics, read, produce writing, and so much more. As we enter the digital world children will also have more opportunities to become independent and maintain their supplies on a daily basis.
