We would like to start a lesson teaching student how to kayak. Our school has a pond on location along with Lake Thunderbird and Lexington Wildlife Management Area and nearby private ponds. We have access to personal kayaks but we need more to conduct a lesson that can involve everyone in class. Our goal would be to get between 6-8 kayaks to introduce a lesson on kayaking basics and eventually take students on field trips to explore the great outdoors of Oklahoma. From my experience if people do not spend time in the outdoors they are not concerned with the impacts relating to it. I don’t think you can experience the outdoors without being aware of the impacts relating to the environment. The more activities we can plan for student involvement outdoors can only increase a student’s awareness levels and relationship between humans and our environment.
