My Project

My students love hands-on STEM learning! The STEAM lab's next round of learning stations will focus on nature observations and natural materials. The log builders will provide natural materials (wood) for a nature engineering station. It promotes fine motor skill development while applying the engineering design process. Students will plan and sketch the structure they want to build, then work in pairs or teams to build, test, and improve their designs!

Each week, 11 classes of K-2 students visit the STEAM lab to learn about scientific practices like making observations and asking questions.

The binoculars will be used by students on guided nature walks around our school campus as well as in the STEAM lab for practice activities. Tiny animal figurines and Audubon bird plushies will be hidden around the classroom so students can fine-tune their binocular observation skills with an indoor scavenger hunt. Students will learn how to adjust the focus and view non-moving objects before taking the binoculars outdoors to view moving birds and other wildlife.
