Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My JV Football Players are some of the greatest kids on the planet. I have been fortunate enough to teach and coach in the greatest city in the world (NYC) and all these kids want to do is better themselves and play football together. We have become a very tight knit family and are as close as any team can possibly get. A lot of the kids cannot afford cleats or quality athletic gear but it does not stop them from getting better everyday, on and off the field.

Most of the kids I coach have grown up quickly at a very young age.

They pick up their younger siblings before and after practice, because they have been tasked with that responsibility. They have to be very mature at a young age but yet still have that commitment and drive to play football.

I have never been more proud to coach a group of young individuals that I am at my school. All I want to do is make these kids experience the best it can possibly be, and so far, we have been able to provide that for them.

My Project

In order to keep our players as safe as possible, it is essential that we have a tackling wheel for them! The wheel will help teach them the correct way to tackle without potential injury. We have to practice tackling on each other and that increases the risk of injury. I have coached with this wheel before and it is the best! This will help keep the players as safe as possible without having to risk injury during practice. We also will use the cones and helmet caps to make sure during practice, that we know who is offense and defense. This will help prepare them for games and keep them safer during practice as well. It is confusing for them when we are all wearing the same color. The cones we have are too tall and my players trip over them constantly. These cones will be perfect for us. All of this equipment will be used right away and will benefit our student athletes!
