Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a small and innovative arts pilot school located in the Northeast area of Los Angeles. Of the students who attend the middle school, 98% are eligible for free or reduced cost lunches. My students come from immigrant backgrounds. I teach a wide range of learners including English learners, students with learning disabilities, as well as students working at or above grade level who are in constant need of being challenged. It's my responsibility to meet the needs of all my students so they can access their full potential. Despite any challenges they face, my students are curious, open to new experiences, and full of promise. I am proud to work in a school that provides a learning environment that is culturally relevant, challenging, and reflective. Allowing my student's independence and a voice for advocacy is important.

My Project

My challenge is to bring learning to my students and find those pathways to engage them at home. My big idea is to find my "classroom", simply means, to show my students that every space we encounter is a classroom opportunity. The power to teach by showing how and exploring how are so crucial to authentic learning.

The goal is to provide my students with an opportunity to see demonstrations that will stir curiosity.

In our new age of learning, what better way to demonstrate learning than with tools and visuals.

I am in need of these resources to help develop that curiosity. I am trying to integrate my math and science lessons and need my own resources at home. Most of my learners require additional scaffolds, especially visuals. These supplies will help me with my vision.
