My Students

We are an urban school located in Rego Park, Queens. My students' multicultural backgrounds enrich our classroom community. They love to engage in conversations about their studies using critical thinking and creativity to challenge each other academically.

Growth mindset is a key component of our class and students can often be heard supporting and encouraging each other through their words and actions.

During their last year in elementary school, my fifth grade students work hard to prepare for the transition to middle school. Additionally, throughout our journey together, they also grow as kind, determined and confident individuals.

My Project

Getting fifth graders prepared for the transition to middle school begins on the first day of school. Starting the year off with basic supplies will help my students hit the ground running. We need folders to organize our work for the special programs we are involved in, writing implements, erasers, folders and notebooks for their daily, writing and collaborations with other fifth grade classes, chart paper to communicate their information during group work, copy paper to print their reports, and charts to help them organize their day and monitor their progress and behavior.

The basic necessities this grant is requesting will help my students focus more on their learning and help grow their independence and organizational skills.

This, in turn, will make their transition to the demands of middle school easier. My students will love using all of these new and colorful supplies.
