My Project

Art education in schools has been proven to help students succeed in school and their lives outside of the classroom. My school is located in a rural Alaskan community in the North West Arctic Borough, and the school district serves almost exclusively Inupiaq Alaskan Natives. Our school district is fully in favor of including art in schools, but like most, is facing massive budget cuts and is having to make difficult choices. While we will receive some funding from the district, it will not be enough to fund the creation of an entire art classroom from scratch.

This project seeks to supplement the funding we will receive from the district and create a fully functioning art classroom that our high school students will be able to utilize both in and out of the classroom.

Education in the creative arts is truly paramount to forming well-rounded students. Having that creative outlet will not only help students explore their creative side but will also teach them ways to cope and deal positively with the world around them. In today's world, we are all too often faced with circumstances that truly challenge our way of life. An art education class can provide my students with a way to cope and express their feelings and emotions.

My intent is to provide my students with a fully functional art classroom that will truly embrace who they are and will be able to transform them into the awesome adults that they will become!
