This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

High schoolers are our future great thinkers and the students in my class are always thinking about the world around them. Whether we are virtual or in my classroom they show how smart and curious critical thinkers they are, but don’t always have access to resources.

My Project

I teach a 12th grade expository English class and an 11th grade class titled Designing the American Dream. In my 12th grade course one of our foundational units is Juvenile Justice. Students explore how the justice system deals with children, teens, and adults. In my 11th grade class we look at how the American Dream has evolved and who has access to the dream and the obstacles in the way for others. Both classes look at the idea of justice and if it’s served. Using a first person account is more powerful than an article or one speech. We also watch Bryan Stevenson’s TED Talk so this book would be a great addition.
