My Students

What my Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing STEM classes lack in HEARING, they make up for with HARD WORK, and HEART! These 4 to 12-year-old students live and learn in New York City. In a world dominated by sound, most children learn new vocabulary and language by overhearing them in conversations that interest them. This is why Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, my students, must work so much harder to learn about things that other children pick up incidentally. They are at a disadvantage in the hearing world when it comes to language. That is where Coding comes in...

CODING is the new UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE which will allow my Deaf and Hard-of Hearing students to finally compete on a level playing field.

Learning to code by working with computers and technology will provide a gateway into the Computer Sciences; a high-demand field with great earning potential for these low-income students. They are excited to start their journey and be on their way to a whole new world or opportunities.

My Project

My Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (Deaf/HH) STEM elementary classes are learning to code for the first time, and they couldn't be more excited! Using the Dash Robot will allow my students to take their new knowledge of programming off of their tablets and into the real world.

Coding and Robotics will allow my students to collaborate, communicate, and build critical thinking skills.

Many of my students come from low-income households and only use technology at school. Using these robots to apply the new language of Coding into real-life activities will prepare these low-income students for future careers in the ever growing tech job market.
